He was born on Groot Eylandt in March 20th
of 1925 and died in July 10th of 2010. He was an Australian engineer
and he invented the “Black Box Flight Recorder”, better known only as black
box.
In his childhood he lived in the coast of the
Northern Territory, but in 1934 his father died on an air crash. This event was
determinant for his career election. In 1952 he graduated from the University
of Sidney with a Bachelor of Science. After that he became the principal
research scientist at the Defense Science and Technology Organization’s
Aeronautical Research Laboratories in Melbourne until 1983. In this period,
after investigating a commercial flight crash, he thought it would be helpful
for the investigators to have a recording of the cockpit. With this idea he
added a new dimension to the flight security. He died at age of 85 in
Melbourne, Australia.
